A note from the Director….
This theatre camp marks the first Delaware acting camp for GEM Productions, and will surely not be the last. The students at the camp were a pleasure to work with and each one of them made unique and substantial contributions to this production.
The students began this week by spending two days learning about genre, theme, plot and character development and then writing the script for the play that you are about to see. They brainstormed numerous ideas and worked together to agree on the ideas that they wanted to use in their script. They also wrote and performed individual scenes and performed improvised scenes that were later worked into the script.
The next two days were spent learning not only the art of acting, but the craft of acting… the repeated rehearsals… running scenes and lines over and over and over again. They also worked outside of camp to memorize their lines.
Between writing and rehearsing, they played games that helped them with vocal projection, focus, energy, and enriching their individual performances. They all worked well together as a group and supported and encouraged each other.
I am proud of each of them, and I am in awe of their creativity, energy, enthusiasm, courage and imagination. My hope is that each of them uses their talent and passion for the arts to be a light that others might follow.
The Delaware Cultural Renaissance has begun!
